Round 6, Pick 205: Hunter Renfrow, WR, Clemson

If the Patriots are going to pair fellow Mountaineers David Sills and Will Grier, then it only seems fitting that they’d buddy up fellow Tigers Dexter Lawrence with Hunter Renfrow.

Renfrow, you’ll remember, was on the receiving end of Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson’s game-winning touchdown pass in the closing seconds of the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

He’s so much more than just that one catch though, of course. As an undersized receiver (5’11, 180 lbs), he bears a striking resemblance to the type of wideouts we’ve seen for years now catching balls from Brady in Patriots uniforms. Wes Welker, Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola… Hunter Renfrow just seems destined to pick up the slack and assume his place as next-in-line when it comes to the Patriots receiver lineage train.

His game could complement Edelman’s in much the same way that Amendola’s once did. And if Sills is on the outside taking the top off opposing defenses with his speed, that opens up the entire middle of the field for Edelman, Renfrow, and Sternberger on shallow crossing routes – which we all know are Brady’s favorites at this stage of his career anyway.

The signs are obvious, too: Renfrow dreamt recently that he was in a team meeting alongside Brady, and he even autographed a custom-made Patriots jersey at the Clemson spring football game that had his own last name on it.

Clearly this is a marriage made in heaven… we just hope BB feels the same way.
