Since FOX Sports announced that Tom Brady would join as a color commentator, Patriots fans have longed for the day he would get in the booth for a New England game. Over the last two years, it looked like something that wouldn't happen any time soon, almost as if there was an active effort to keep him away from Foxboro.

But that changes this weekend when the Patriots welcome the Packers to Gillette Stadium for a big Week 9 matchup.

There is still plenty of excitement about the former quarterback calling a game for the team he helped lead to so much success for two decades, even though we're only 9 months removed from him saying he "no dog in the fight" when asked to make his Super Bowl pick earlier this year, despite the Patriots reaching the Championship game.

That's something fans haven't let go of, which only feels worse since he's a minority owner of the Raiders. On top of that, his actions and words in recent years make it easy to believe he's trying to distance himself from the organization that helped make him the greatest of all time; whether that's a professional or personal decision is difficult to say, but it hasn't sat well with most diehard Patriots' fans.

Brady now has a chance to get back in their good graces with a solid day in the booth, calling their game. Fortunately, he's off to a good start, sharing his candid feelings about returning to New England on Sunday.

Tom Brady is actually looking forward to calling the Patriots vs. Packers game

While speaking with Colin Cowherd earlier this week, Brady offered a surprisingly positive take on calling the Patriots' game this weekend, sharply contrasting with his apparent lackadaisical feelings about the team over the past two years.

Maybe it's just a politically correct response, or perhaps it's genuine. Regardless, it's nice to hear before Patriots fans listen to him call the game this weekend.

"It'll be certainly emotional. I mean every inch of that stadium I've been through so many times, from the locker rooms to the meeting rooms to the field. There are just so many memorable plays in that stadium, big games, championship games and rivalry games. Division-clinching games."

With Brady in the booth and knowing he gives away the LFG Award to the best player of the game, it would be nice for Drake Maye and the Patriots to play their best game yet so fans can see the GOAT hand the trophy to their current franchise quarterback.

It would, at least for now, put all frustrations over Brady's lack of praise for his former team to rest, which is much more fun than dwelling on how he hasn't openly supported the Patriots enough since retiring.

The vibes should be good, and hopefully that'll rub off on Brady, too, since longtime teammate Rob Gronkowski will be inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame on Saturday, and there's a chance the former quarterback will be there.

Regardless, let's hope Brady is fair and won't have Patriots fans hoping he never calls another game for the team again.
