The New England Patriots knew they needed to add to their wide receiver room this offseason, and they did just that on Tuesday, agreeing to a contract with free agent wide receiver Romeo Doubs.

After four productive years with the Green Bay Packers, Doubs will now catch passes from Drake Maye, and based on his reported contract, it’s clear New England thinks Doubs will do a great job at that.

The wide receiver has agreed to what’s expected to be a four-year deal worth $80 million with the Patriots, which breaks down to $20 million a year. It was initially reported that the deal was three years' worth at $70 million, then that number changed to four years' worth at $80 million.

Eventually, NFL insiders confirmed that the wideout and New England have committed to four years for $80 million.

This is a big commitment from New England, and it shows that the franchise believes the young wide receiver’s best years are ahead of him. Doubs will turn 26 in April and has played only four seasons in the NFL. A fourth-round pick of the Packers, he immediately established himself as a productive contributor in the league.

Doubs is coming off his best season as a pro, catching 55 passes for 724 yards and six touchdowns in 16 games in Green Bay. In his four years with the Packers, he played in 59 total games, catching 202 passes for 2,424 yards and 21 touchdowns. The Patriots believe that’s just the start for the talented wideout.

Four years and 80 million dollars is the Patriots' way of saying they expect that production to increase. In New England, Doubs will have the opportunity to establish himself as the No. 1 wide receiver for Drake Maye — something the Patriots offense desperately needs. New England got help from a ton of guys last season, and that’s why the franchise was able to make the Super Bowl.

Having a go-to guy out wide will help the team be even better moving forward. While New England may not be done making moves, it’s time for Doubs to prove he’s that guy.
