Expectations are low in Foxboro heading into the 2024 season. The New England Patriots, who moved on from head coach Bill Belichick this offseason after six Super Bowls, are essentially starting from scratch with first-year head coach Jerod Mayo taking over.

New England is projected by oddsmakers to be the AFC’s worst team this season with a win total of just 4.5 games. Part of that is expected with a new head coach and the uncertainty of who will be leading the rebuild for the Patriots under center.

New England also moved on from Mac Jones, its quarterback for three seasons after being taken 15th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Patriots reunited with former backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett this offseason, but the odds say New England will take another crack at finding a franchise signal-caller with the No. 3 overall pick in this month’s draft.

Patriots favored to take Drake Maye (-130) with No. 3 overall pick in 2024 NFL Draft

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Patriots have become the odds-on favorite to select North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye with the No. 3 overall pick later this month at -130, which carries an implied probability of 56.52%.

Maye started his last two seasons with the Tar Heels, throwing for just under 8,000 yards and 62 touchdowns.

Worth noting, the odds have jumped up slightly in less than a day that Maye will land in New England. As of Wednesday night, he was even money (+100) to be taken with the Patriots’ first pick of the Mayo era.

LSU quarterback and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels is the second favorite to go to the Patriots at +160 (38.46% implied probability). Daniels could be off the board by the time New England is on the clock, though. Daniels is the betting favorite at -165 to be drafted second overall by the Washington Commanders.
