Over the last 24 hours, the Patriots have been linked to nearly every free agent wide receiver hitting the market this week, even some who have been speculated as trade candidates. That has been the most desirable scenario for fans, as the biggest names continue to sign elsewhere.
But in the midst of it all, they remained connected to Romeo Doubs, a 25-year-old who thrived during his four seasons in Green Bay as a deep threat option for Jordan Love. He had all the makings of being a great addition for Drake Maye, and the Patriots have now made it official by signing him to a 4-year deal.

Although he's not the WR1 most were hoping for, he fits the WR2 role that the Patriots were likely looking for, while also allowing Maye to utilize one of his best skills as a deep thrower.
Patriots' make their first wide receiver signing by bringing in Romeo Doubs
After letting go of Stefon Diggs last week, the receiving corps was in far worse shape than it had been since last offseason.
They certainly got far more production out of the group than anyone anticipated, particularly Mack Hollins, but they were still lacking the explosive options that Maye desperately needed.
Doubs can fill that role and serve as a go-to guy for Maye, even if they manage to bring in a bigger-name player like AJ Brown.
Mike Vrabel and Eliot Wolf are clearly prioritizing building an upgraded group around the quarterback, and signing Doubs proves that beyond any doubt. He's young, athletic, and speedy, while also adding a trait that had been missing on the current roster, and that's all you could ask for.
