After missing out on their alleged top free agency receiver target in Alec Pierce, who re-signed a massive contract with the Colts, the Patriots still have a few options to consider, most of which would be to trade for their next WR1. That leaves players like AJ Brown available, and although it looked like the Eagles weren't budging, the latest reporting suggests otherwise.
According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Eagles are at least listening to trade conversations about Brown, and one source told her they might be open to a first-round pick in 2027, which the Patriots might be more willing to give up.
It's still a steep price, but if Mike Vrabel wants his guy, then it might be what he has to pay.

At some point in discussions, a league source conveyed to me Monday the belief that the #Eagles may be okay with a 2027 1st round pick & a 2026 2nd round pick for WR AJ Brown.
When, I asked sources why Philly may* be okay… https://t.co/CstSfIBPx1 pic.twitter.com/fc1cahti5u
Over the weekend, it had been reported that the Patriots had already offered a first-round pick and more, but the Eagles turned them down.
If that were true, then Anderson's new reporting would seem inaccurate. But if the weekend chatter wasn't accurate, then maybe the Patriots have another chance at getting the receiver they have had their eye on for a few years.
The Patriots might have another chance to get AJ Brown on the roster
Considering they just watched Pierce return to the Colts, Vrabel and Co. will have to go all-in to get another receiver instead, and Brown is looking more desirable by the moment.
There are other trade options to consider, like Jaguars' Brian Thomas Jr., but there hasn't been much made about their interest in the 23-year-old. At this point, though, they might want to consider it, as he is a former first-round pick and had an impressive first two seasons in the NFL.
If they're still hyperfixated on Brown, however, Anderson's reporting gives some optimism that a deal could be reached. The Eagles would be foolish not to consider what they could get in return, and if the Patriots are willing to give it up, there's no reason to turn them down.
