The Patriots go into their Week 4 matchup against the Bills with a lot on the line, and no one believes they can leave Buffalo with the win. Based on how they've fared so far this season, and the Bills playing the complete opposite, it's not an unfair prediction, and now, knowing they will be without one of their key defensive linemen and top cornerback, it could be a disaster.
Drake Maye will face heavy pressure to bounce back, even against the opposing team's leading pass rusher, and the hope is that he can take advantage of the Bills' defensive weakness against slot receivers.
But much of the game will come down to how the Patriots' defense performs against a high-powered offense led by Josh Allen, who now has a top-tier run game and a clear No. 1 receiver in D.J. Moore.
That means players like Gabe Jacas will need to show up and show out on Sunday, and fortunately, they'll have Dre'Mont Jones back in the lineup after missing last week's game. The rookie spoke about what the defense's identity would be this season before Week 1, and ensuring they play that way will be crucial to having a real chance.
Gabe Jacas and the Patriots defense are in store for a big game this week
As one of the projected difference-makers for the defense this season, Jacas was a popular player heading into his rookie year, especially after his flashy preseason moments.
He has had standout plays over the last three games that proved he can grow into the playmaker the Patriots need him to be; he just needs to show it more consistently, on top of living up to the two words he used to describe how the group would be this year.
Gabe Jacas on what the #Patriots identity will be this season:

“Be physical, be violent. Just show that relentless pursuit, that relentless motor to the ball. Just be a whole bunch of savages out there. Just doing our jobs and relying on our techniques and fundamentals.”

Physical and violent. That's the kind of defense Mike Vrabel loves, and the kind of performance they'll need if they want to stay in the game on Sunday and maybe steal a win.
We've seen glimpses of that very kind of production from the roster this season, with big moments by Christian Elliss (his hit on Aaron Rodgers became meme-worthy). Elijah Ponder (recovering a fumble for a touchdown) and Marcus Jones (snagging an interception).
Jacas has stepped up, too, and he should be able to play a bit better now that he's not the main pass rusher with Jones back in the lineup. He has a big opportunity to make a real impact against the Patriots' toughest rival, and any moment he can create could help them leave Buffalo with a win and their season back on track.
It could become the Gabe Jacas breakout game. Let's hope it happens.
