The 2026 offseason has been filled with monstrous trades that have changed the landscape of the NFL, with perhaps the biggest move of all being the trade of multi-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett from the Browns to the Rams.
The Patriots engaged in a noteworthy trade, as well, when they acquired wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Eagles last month, and there might be more deals to come in New England or elsewhere, as a long list of superstar players are still looking for an extension with their current team or elsewhere.
One of the most notable names of all is defensive end Maxx Crosby, who was the first superstar traded this offseason in a blockbuster deal from the Raiders to the Ravens, only for Baltimore to back out after reportedly feeling uncomfortable with the pass rusher's medical history.
Although the Raiders appeared to welcome him back, there's a good chance that Crosby will still want out, as he did previously, or the Raiders will want to trade him again before this season's deadline in hopes of recouping the massive draft capital they lost when the deal went South.
That's a trade the Patriots should be all over, as Crosby's demand will almost certainly be much lower, and so will the price tag to acquire him.
Maxx Crosby might be looking for a new team before the 2026 season ends
Following Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport's most recent prediction that Crosby will likely demand a trade again later this year, it's easy to put the Patriots back into the conversation, much like they were before he was previously traded to the Ravens.
Their most dire weakness on the roster right now is their pass rush, especially with second-round pick Gabe Jacas remaining away from the team since rookie mini camp this spring. Not to mention, Harold Landry is coming off offseason surgery, and there are plenty of questions about just how productive free-agent-signed Dre'Mont Jones will be in a more prominent role.
Because of that, there is a good chance Crosby will be on the Patriots' radar at the right price, and ahead of this season's trade deadline, it might be the perfect time to acquire the kind of defensive talent they haven't had since Matthew Judon suited up with the team.
That's the kind of production that would make New England an easy Super Bowl frontrunner, assuming the addition of Brown to the offense boosts the group to the level that they need to be more competitive.
Knowing that their championship window is wide open and the AFC looks to be the same, there's plenty of reason for Eliot Wolf to seriously inquire about Crosby and what it would take to complete a trade.
Adding a 5-time Pro Bowler coming off a 10-sack season in a shortened year due to injury would put the Patriots over the top. They could immediately be back on track for another Super Bowl run during a year that nearly every analyst has already counted them out, and that is something Crosby would surely want to be part of.
