The start of Bill Belichick's tenure at the University of North Carolina has been far from smooth sailing, which isn't entirely surprising for Patriots fans or NFL fans in general. There was a lot of doubt when it was announced that he would become the university's next football head coach, as he had only coached in the NFL. So, the fact that it's not going well aligns with what most predicted.
While that's true, his career has derailed for far different reasons than anyone could have imagined, as much of the ongoing drama has surrounded his relationship with his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson. She has been by his side throughout his new venture, creating headlines almost by the week since arriving in Chapel Hill.
The most recent rumor doesn't seem to involve Hudson, but it's still not a great look for the legendary head coach.
On Wednesday, rumors began to swirl that the higher-ups at UNC privately met to discuss buying out Belichick's contract following the apparent collapse of the football team and the ongoing drama following the head coach. But new statements from both parties seem to shoot that down.
The outpouring of rumors surrounding Bill Belichick's standing at UNC continues to get more confusing
After a swarm of insiders suggested the end was near for the Belichick-UNC experiment, the school and the coach surprisingly released statements on Wednesday night in an effort to end the ongoing narrative.
They claim to be on the same page and want to continue working together, which comes just hours after new rumors suggested that even Belichick was looking for his contract to be bought out so he could seek employment elsewhere.

The entire situation has become incredibly confusing, and there's no clarity on what's really going on in North Carolina. It can't be a desirable outcome for Belichick or UNC, even if much of what's going on could be blamed on the coach.
It was inevitable that there would be a newfound interest in UNC because they chose to hire such a notable name with a prestigious NFL career behind him. At the same time, it's entirely fair to assume they were hoping it wouldn't be as negative an experience as it has been, as it has even led to the cancellation of their Hulu documentary on their football program.
It hasn't been an enjoyable experience so far, and the football team's performance isn't any better. Chatter continues to filter out of the school, with some anonymous coaches claiming they have caused significant damage to the football team, worsening the entire situation.
At this point, it seems the working relationship will continue in the short term, but there's truth to the rumors about UNC being unhappy with how Belichick has been performing and wanting to buy out his contract. We'll have to wait and see what happens, but it certainly doesn't look like a happily ever after ending.
