Jets' potential disaster could be another big win for the Patriots in 2026

The AFC East has undergone a lot of changes in recent years, and unfortunately for the Patriots, it hasn't been every team but their own as it had been for decades. We've seen three head coaches in New England since 2023, which was a major surprise given that Bill Belichick had been with the team for over 20 years.

It's not as shocking to see the same revolving door of coaches in the rest of the division, however, and that continued to be a big story this offseason with the Bills and Dolphins bringing in new staff in hopes of making their teams more competitive, if not competitive in general.

The Jets are another team that has gone through plenty of head coaches, and during the 2025 offseason, they hired Aaron Glenn, a former longtime NFL cornerback who has been working as a defensive coach in the league since the 2014 season.

After failing to make much of a difference on the team in his first season, Glenn moved on from several coaches earlier this offseason and brought in more experienced personnel to boost their chances of being successful this time around.

The problem is that it might not make a difference, as PFF lists Glenn as one of the six coaches in the hot seat heading into the 2026 season.

Aaron Glenn's future as the Jets head coach is not something the Patriots should overlook

While it might be a small sample size to come to any conclusion about what kind of coach Glenn can ultimately be for the Jets, his first year in the position was far from ideal, even if it wasn't entirely his fault.

Bradley Locker of PFF noted how poorly the team played during another losing season, and unless Glenn is able to dramatically turn things around this fall, then he could be fired mid-season, if not next year.

"Under Glenn, New York finished 31st in overall PFF grade while going 3-14 with a -203 point differential, the 14th-worst in a single season. The Jets were no better than 29th in both offensive and defensive EPA per play, and only one Jets player — Breece Hall — earned at least a 75.0 overall grade while playing over 200 snaps."

Hoping to avoid that potential future, the Jets made plenty of moves to improve their coaching staff and their roster.

They are considered one of the most impressive teams coming out of the draft, as they selected some of the best players at their positions, which could become a problem for a team like the Patriots, who have to face them twice a season.

Locker didn't make light of that part, either.

"The Jets swapped out almost everything about their coaching staff except for canning Glenn, including hiring Frank Reich and Brian Durker as coordinators. New York did improve its roster this offseason with David Bailey, Kenyon Sadiq and Omar Cooper Jr. as its three first-round picks, plus adding Minkah Fitzpatrick, Demario Davis and others via free agency and trade."

This puts even more pressure on Glenn's shoulders, and that could be a massive win for New England, who has already dominated the Jets for decades at this point. Their offseason additions could have threatened that, but if their head coach doesn't make the kind of improvement the franchise was hoping for, the Jets could fall all the way to the bottom of the league with ease yet again.

That makes the Patriots an early winner again, and could make the Bills their top competition this upcoming season once again.

That's the ideal outcome for what has been a noteworthy offseason for the Patriots, particularly after acquiring top talent such as safety Kevin Byard III, wide receiver A.J. Brown, and offensive guard Alijah Vera-Tucker.

Making their jobs a bit easier in the midst of what is already considered one of the most difficult schedules in the NFL would be the latest gift from the Jets, especially if Glenn is let go much sooner than anyone imagined, even if we obviously shouldn't hope for anyone to lose their job.

How the start of the season goes for New York will be a strong indication of what the head coach's future might look like, and it is certainly something the Patriots should pay close attention to.
