Amid a down period in New England Patriots history, there was some excitement for the fans that didn't involve winning since they haven't done a lot of that in recent years, which revolved around the reintroduction of favorite uniform combinations that had been gone for some time.
The return of the red throwbacks over the last few seasons was a welcomed addition to their jersey rotation. So was bringing back the navy jersey with silver pants combo that seemed to be led by Jerod Mayo in 2024. That seemed to hint that it could be part of the regular rotation during the season, which has been hinted about over the past year.
It could become a reality even though Mayo is no longer with the team, especially since Mike Vrabel is the new head coach. He was part of the Patriots when they wore those uniforms the most, and according to quarterback Drake Maye, those might not be the only uniforms we see back sooner rather than later.
Drake Maye hints at the possible return of the Patriots blue throwback uniforms fans have yearned for
The Patriots quarterback recently spoke to Super Bowl Champion and one-time Patriot Chris Long on his "Green Light" podcast.
One of the topics of conversation revolved around the Patriots jerseys, as most have a liking for the red throwbacks, including Maye, who got to wear them twice last season. But within that discussion, he mentioned that there might be another throwback returning to the team, hinting at the long-awaited return of iconic old-school blue jerseys fans have been begging to see again for years.

This is the first time that those specific throwbacks have been mentioned as possibly coming back to the team, but they haven't been the only ones talked about in recent weeks.
The Patriots Valentine's Day post got people talking, as the image shared showed another fan favorite jersey from the 90s - early 2000s. That prompted a lot of speculation about their possible return, too, which the Patriots might want to invest in because the fans would line up to buy them.
Whether those come back or not, hopefully, Maye is right and accidentally revealed the Patriots' plans for the blue throwbacks. It might have been a slip-up, but fans are already excited about the chance to see them back, even if it is in a limited capacity.
