The New England Patriots are over half a decade removed from having Tom Brady under center, and he's been sorely missed in the years following his departure. A 7-9 season with Cam Newton offered an uninspiring offense, Mac Jones' initial promise flamed out quickly, and Jerod Mayo's lone season left much to be desired. The Patriots have finally found their heir to Tom Brady, and the GOAT loves them for it.

In Brady's most recent power rankings, he slotted New England 6th, based on their 7-2 record. He credits "The Vrabel Way" for their ascension. Vrabel's teams have historically been hard-hitting and tough squads that do the fundamentals at an elite level, and that's exactly what this team has done. The defense has been elite, No. 6 overall and No. 1 against the run.

Furthermore, the offense has relied on its elite talent, with Drake Maye having just four interceptions in nine games.

The Seahawks and Rams are the two next teams ahead of New England, while the Eagles and Bills rank No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Their upcoming opponent, Tampa Bay, sits third in the rankings. This week will be another test for New England.

The Patriots are one of the NFL's top teams of the 2025 season

It goes without saying that the Patriots have been impressive this year, but being the sixth-best team in football is particularly impressive. The five teams that are ahead of the Patriots were all in a far better position last season than New England was, and that's a testament to the hard work of their new coaching staff.

The No. 1 Eagles were Super Bowl Champions, while the 2024 MVP-led Bills take the second spot -- they're also a team the Patriots have beaten this year. The Buccaneers could end up below the Patriots should New England beat them this weekend, while the Rams and Seahawks are led by a pair of QBs playing at MVP levels.

While these teams are all excellent in their own right, the ascension of New England is very impressive, courtesy of Drake Maye, Mike Vrabel, and Robert Kraft.
