The AFC East has been dominated by the Buffalo Bills for much of the past six years, thanks to Tom Brady leaving the Patriots for the Buccaneers after the 2019 season. That opened the door for the longtime joke of a franchise to move up the totem pole and become a team actively competing for a Super Bowl, even if they consistently fall short of actually accomplishing that.

As we saw, that changed during the 2025 season when the Patriots won back the division and secured the No. 2 seed in the conference on their way to the Super Bowl.

It has prompted the Bills, who have a new head coach and staff for the first time in almost 10 years, to make some big-time moves this offseason in hopes of regaining control of the AFC East and keeping their Championship window open.

The most notable move was, of course, the trade for wide receiver DJ Moore, giving QB Josh Allen a true threat on the offense since Stefon Diggs was on the roster. But what if they didn't stop there?

It's a scenario that Alex Kay of Bleacher Report recently explored after the Rams pulled off a trade of the century for future Hall of Famer Myles Garrett.

The Bills might get desperate enough to pull off another blockbuster trade for a top-tier receiver

Trying to come up with other trades that would be near the same magnitude as the Garrett trade, Kay proposed the Bills making a deal for WR Justin Jefferson, sending 2027 first-, second-, and fourth-round picks, 2028 third- and fifth-round picks to Minnesota for their next clear-cut WR1.

It would be a show of desperation to take the division back, and would certainly create a nightmare scenario for the Patriots' defense.

"An Allen-Jefferson battery could put up historic numbers akin to what Randy Moss and Tom Brady accomplished with the 2007 New England Patriots. It would cost the Bills a haul of future picks to bring the tandem together, but doing so would give the club perhaps its best shot yet at a championship."

There's no doubt that the pairing of Allen and Jefferson would become the most lethal QB-WR duo the league has seen in recent memory, and that is a disaster for the Patriots' hopes of maintaining control of the division.

At the same time, however, it would be a massive example of just how desperate the Bills are to beat the Patriots, whom they haven't had to worry much about for five years. Now that they can see their days as the team to beat in the division are nearing their end, it would be unsurprising to see them go all-in for a player of Jefferson's caliber.

It certainly wouldn't be a bad idea after seeing the Patriots pull off a trade for AJ Brown, especially considering what pairing him with Drake Maye can do for their offense.

Whether it would be better for the Bills to trade for Jefferson and waste that much draft capital to get him, or for the Patriots' defense to learn to shut him down twice a season, is hard to say. No matter what, New England would be able to take joy in knowing they've instilled fear in their biggest rivals again.
