For months, it's been almost impossible to go online without coming across the words "A.J. Brown," "trade," and "New England Patriots" in some shape or form. This has been an open secret for a long time now, and while it's getting somewhat tiring, it's not going away any time soon.
Barring a shocking turn of events, the Patriots are expected to acquire Brown on or after June 1. They may have already agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles for Brown, but waiting until June is advantageous for Eagles general manager Howie Roseman and the Eagles' 2026 salary cap situation.
Of course, no move is official until it actually happens, but all signs point to the former second-round pick of the Tennessee Titans being reunited with Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.
Considering that, Patriots fans will love what FanSided's Jake Beckman had to say about him.
"He’s a mix of gunpowder, NO2, and pure bull shark testosterone. The 2022 Eagles took that syringe, jabbed it straight into their carotid artery, and had one of the most explosive passing offenses in the league. That’s what happens when you add the most dominant X-receiver in the NFL," Beckman wrote.
A.J. Brown could unlock something the Patriots offense hasn’t had
As Beckman pointed out, Brown's utter physical dominance allows him to do pretty much everything the offense needs from him. He can be a possession receiver who helps move the chains, or he can torch defensive backs as a big-play specialist on the outside. He can also do some damage in the slot with quick slants and some yards after the catch.
Watching Brown's 2025 tape is infuriating. There was no creativity, not enough crossing routes, no moving him around the line of scrimmage — nothing. Kevin Patullo will have a tough time getting another offensive coordinator job after watching him misuse one of the most dynamic weapons in football.
Despite his team's struggles and Jalen Hurts' down year, Brown still managed to overcome a slow start to the season with 78 receptions for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns. That would probably be a career year for most NFL receivers, but it was actually a disappointing season for the former Super Bowl champion.
Drake Maye is about to enter his third year in the league. He took a huge leap last season, even without many weapons around him.
Now, with Romeo Doubs joining the team as a legitimate No. 2 wide receiver, and A.J. Brown potentially joining him in a month, it wouldn't be far-fetched for Maye flirt with 300 passing yards and three touchdowns on a weekly basis.
