The New England Patriots have a solid veteran starter at tight end in Hunter Henry, but as he enters his age-32 campaign next season, the team should make some long-term plans at this spot by adding a prospect from the 2026 NFL Draft class on Day 2 to the position group.
Georgia tight end Oscar Delp appears to be interested in coming to New England, recently posting an Instagram edit of himself in a Patriots uniform, and the front office may seriously consider selecting him if he is still available when they are on the clock during the third round at 95th overall.
Why Oscar Delp makes sense for the Patriots on Day 2 of the NFL Draft
The Patriots made an effort to add some depth at tight end after losing 2025 backup Austin Hooper in free agency by signing Julian Hill, but they likely don't envision the former Miami Dolphin as the heir apparent to Henry, strengthening the case for taking Delp.
Standing 6'4" and 245 lbs, he wasn't overly productive as a pass catcher last season, recording just 20 receptions for 261 yards and a touchdown, as he started all 13 games for the Bulldogs. However, his physical tools indicate Delp could develop into a more consistent receiving option, while also offering a good deal of blocking upside.
NFL Next Gen Stats gave him an Athleticism Score of 89, which ranks second among 2026 tight end prospects, and he earned a 9.82 Relative Athletic Score out of a possible 10.00, placing 26th out of 1,388 players at the position from 1987 to 2026.

The scouting outlook from draft experts on Delp
Delp has been praised for how he creates leverage with his solid blocking technique, his pure speed to beat linebackers in man coverage, and the short-area quickness to uncover himself on a number of routes.
However, he's also been criticized for an inability to extend for off-frame throws, inconsistent ability to haul in catches through contact, and a need to get stronger to remain an effective blocker at the pro level.
The Patriots reportedly hosted Delp on a Top-30 visit earlier in the pre-draft process, indicating interest in adding him to the roster, with hopes that the Georgia native can eventually develop into a plus starter down the line.
