The 2025 class of free agent receivers wasn't one to get too excited about, which was exactly the opposite of what the Patriots needed going into the offseason. After another disappointing year with an unimpressive offense, adding a clear WR1 was at the top of their list of most prominent needs, yet no name really stood out as the right fit.
They missed out on making some big-time trades, like the Steelers moving George Pickens and trading for D.K. Metcalf, but they ultimately landed on Stefon Diggs. He was an immediate questionable decision in the eyes of the New England media and some fans, due to suffering a season-ending ACL injury in 2024 and the problems that ultimately led to his departure from his last two teams.
However, his tenure in New England has been mostly smooth sailing so far, except for the boat incident that dominated headlines earlier in the spring. The new coaching staff has had nothing but good things to say about Diggs, and now the receiver himself has set the record straight in a new YouTube video, addressing his mindset and what he hopes the seasons ahead will bring to his career.
Any concerns about Stefon Diggs' fit with the Patriots continue to be proven unnecessary
In part of what appears to be an offseason project on his YouTube channel, Diggs has been consistently posting video updates showing what he has been up to this offseason.
One of his latest videos was shot during a European vacation, where he recounts how his career in the NFL began and the hard work it took to reach this point in his career. He emphasizes how grateful he is to continue playing and welcomes the new opportunity with the Patriots, which is exactly the kind of mindset the team needs right now.
“I was a fifth-round draft pick. I beat everybody out of a job. That’s how I got my start. I got my opportunity, and I took advantage, and I got better each and every week. Now, I'm going into the new situation. I love that God gave me the opportunity again. ...There is no second chances with this [expletive]. You gotta take advantage of the right now.”
That chip on his shoulder is still sitting strong, even ten years after he was drafted, and the Patriots are known for loving a player with extra motivation to play hard in the league. So, Diggs fits right in, in that regard.

On top of that, his mindset of wanting to take advantage of the opportunity the Patriots are giving him is great news for Mike Vrabel and Co. to hear again, as Diggs was not highly pursued in free agency, likely due to his ACL injury. Although he wasn't able to participate much during spring practices, he has proven to be far ahead in his rehab process due to the extensive training he has been doing away from the facility, prompting many to believe he could be ready for Week 1.
It would be the best case scenario for Drake Maye and the offense, but regardless of when he will be able to suit up and play, it's clear Diggs is in the right headspace going into his new tenure with the Patriots. Hopefully, that will be maintained moving forward, so any lingering concerns from doubters will no longer be relevant.
