Stefon Diggs joined the New England Patriots in the offseason, and the veteran receiver was open about his goal to help lead the team to a Super Bowl win. He was criticized, because no one really thought New England would quickly turn things around after winning just four games in each of the last two seasons. However, Diggs and the Patriots will be playing the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl on Sunday.
One of the reasons why Diggs was confident coming to New England is the presence of Drake Maye. Speaking with the media on Wednesday, the veteran receiver explained that he has been impressed with his young quarterback since before they were teammates.
Diggs referenced a game from the 2024 season, when he played against Maye and the Patriots while with the Houston Texans. He remembers the plays Maye made in that game, and thinking to himself, “He can spin it a little bit.”

That game against Houston was actually the first start of Maye’s career, and while the Patriots lost 41-21, the young quarterback did have a promising outing. He completed 20-of-33 passes for 243 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also added 38 yards on the ground. Since that start, Maye has significantly improved, and will play in a Super Bowl in just his second season.
A lot of his development has taken place this season, since Diggs arrived. The wide receiver called Maye’s maturation process “second to none,” emphasizing that what the quarterback is doing is especially wild with how young he is. The receiver made it clear that the two have since grown close, and he considers Maye an inspiration, and a great teammate.
Diggs, in his 11th NFL season, has been a leader and productive receiver for Maye and the Patriots this year. Playing in all 17 games, he caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. Most importantly, Diggs finally made a Super Bowl for the first time in his career.
Now, he’ll try to get the job done on Sunday and help his young quarterback get a ring.
