The New England Patriots beat the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game and advanced to Super Bowl 60. According to Stefon Diggs, he was pretty close to being on that losing Broncos squad, which is something that he revealed during Super Bowl Media Day.

Diggs discussed how he came close to signing with the Broncos last offseason before ultimately choosing to land in New England. Diggs spoke about how he had a good relationship with Davis Webb on the Broncos coaching staff and how that almost tipped the scale in Denver's favor.

"I just got a good relationship with somebody that's on [Sean Payton's] staff... He was in Buffalo so he actually taught me the offense in Buffalo," Diggs said. "It was close but just like everything, you know, we were just trying to figure it out. ... A lot of things could be different. ... Came down to the Pats though."

Diggs signed with New England on a three-year deal that was criticized a bit at the time. He had gotten injured during the 2024 season while he was with the Texans and that, paired with his flare for the dramatic during his time in Buffalo, made Patriots fans side-eye the contract a bit. Fans are certainly happy to eat the words they might have thrown out at the time, however, because Diggs has been a great addition to this team.

While Diggs wasn't a major factor in the AFC title game, he was a big piece for the Patriots during his inaugural season with the team. Plus, no one was really a big factor offensively due to the weather in Denver, so it's hard to hold that against Diggs too much.

Diggs compiled over 1,000 yards receiving and scored four touchdowns during the 2025 season in New England and proved to be a valuable weapon for Drake Maye. He was exactly what the Patriots needed him to be for this team, and to think he almost went elsewhere is a scary thought.

Had Diggs been with the Broncos, maybe that'd have been enough to propel Denver to the Super Bowl instead. Fortunately, we live in the timeline where Diggs chose to sign with New England and the Patriots are in the Super Bowl.
