Stefon Diggs' concerning comments are actually good for Patriots' future

The Patriots' receiving corps continues to be a big topic of conversation through the first month of the 2025 season, with Stefon Diggs' slow start near the top of the list. Although it was expected that he would likely be on a snap count due to suffering an ACL injury last season, he hasn't been the weapon that many believed he would be.

That finally changed on Sunday when he recorded his first 100+ yard game since signing in New England, proving he is still the player some thought he wouldn't be anymore. It was the kind of performance fans had been waiting to see and hope to see more of, and based on how good he looked, it's fair to assume they will.

But some comments Diggs made to the reporters after the game will surely draw attention for all the wrong reasons, which is why they should be taken more positively than anything else.

Stefon Diggs isn't completely comfortable in the Patriots' offense, but he's still performing like a WR1

Because of his noticeable slow rise in a Patriots uniform, it's unsurprising that reporters asked Diggs about his comfort level in Josh McDaniels' offense. The seasoned offensive coordinator is known for putting together a complex playbook, so there's reason to believe that Diggs is taking longer to get the hang of it.

To an extent, he nearly said as much, which might draw some groans from Patriots Nation. However, the fact that we saw the kind of performance we did from him against the Panthers suggests otherwise, and we might finally start seeing the Stefon Diggs fans have longed for throughout the rest of the season.

Next week against his former team would be a great way to build upon this week's performance.

On the surface, it's never great to hear that any player, especially one with such a prominent role like Diggs, is not entirely comfortable with the offensive game plan. But at the same time, he hasn't shown any sort of decline or confusion on the field to suggest he doesn't understand what the playbook is calling for, and his comments could more so be attributed to playing in just his fourth game with the team.

Even if that's the case, Diggs has already proven to be the kind of player the Patriots wanted for Drake Maye, which was on full display during their blowout win over the Panthers on Sunday.

The quarterback has made it clear that he wants to get the ball to Diggs more each week, and while Mike Vrabel claimed it wasn't a priority to incorporate the receiver more in this week's matchup, it certainly looked like it was emphasized with the game plan.

His performance is something they'll want to immediately build upon, especially heading into perhaps their toughest matchup of the season so far when they travel to Buffalo next week for Sunday Night Football.

Seeing Diggs put on a clinic laced with revenge in primetime would be quite the way to build upon his first 100+ yard game as a Patriot. Knowing that it is highly possible makes his comments about his comfort level less concerning, and he could easily shut down any narrative resulting from his comments with a solid performance against his former team.
