Robert Griffin III suggests free agency splash move Patriots should run from

The Dolphins are in complete rebuild mode entering the 2026 offseason and could completely start over if they decide that Tua Tagovailoa is not the right quarterback to lead them into the future, despite having given him a massive extension less than two years ago.

They made their first splash earlier this week by releasing some of their big-name players, including pass rusher Bradley Chubb, who the Patriots should consider signing in free agency, and wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who spent much of the 2025 season on injured reserve after tearing his ACL.

Because the Patriots need to upgrade their receiving corps, Hill was immediately deemed an option to sign, despite being another aging player coming off a serious injury like Stefon Diggs. But most fans have no interest in bringing in a consistently problematic player, especially someone like Hill, who appeared excited that his season ended last year.

Tyreek Hill would be a great addition to the Patriots roster in previous years, but not in 2026

That didn't stop analysts, like Robert Griffin III (RG3), from suggesting New England go after the 8-time Pro Bowler, as he believes he would be an impressive option for Drake Maye to work with.

The problem is that fans aren't interested after seeing his antics during his four year tenure in Miami.

While he would be an excellent addition to their wide receiver room, as he strung together four consecutive seasons of 1,000+ receiving yards, there's a lot to be desired from his behavior on and off the field that make it an easy no in the eyes of the fans, not to mention, the culture that Mike Vrabel is building in Foxborough that cannot be disrupted by a risky signing like this.

They can't afford to add a questionable player into the mix after what they accomplished last season, no matter how productive he would likely be on the field.

But even that could be questionable, given he's coming off an ACL tear, and, generally speaking, players don't return to the kind of player they were before the injury. That was a concern with Stefon Diggs, and although he didn't appear to miss a step, it's still a risk to sign a player in that position.

It feels more than enough for the Patriots to steer clear of Hill and focus their efforts on other receivers when free agency begins.
