Over the last 25 years, the Patriots have won more than any other team in the NFL and because of that, earned one of the final spots in the first round of any draft. While that means they had a deep playoff run or got to the Super Bowl, which is certainly something to celebrate, it wasn't a great place to be if you hoped to improve the roster with new and young talent.

It would be difficult to complain about something like that considering that Bill Belichick and Tom Brady led the team to nine Super Bowl appearances and six wins, but it really took a toll on roster building, which got them to where they are now.

Fortunately, they have landed in the top-5 picks of the first round over the last two years due to losing more than winning, allowing them to get some of the best prospects of the incoming classes. That is the same fate they'll have next month with the No. 4 selection, with many solid players to choose from on both sides of the football.

Who will fall to them and who they might choose remains unclear, especially since three teams ahead of them could benefit from drafting a quarterback. If that were to happen, the Patriots would be in the best-case scenario, making the latest mock draft from NFL.com the dream situation.

The Patriots win the 2025 NFL Draft lottery in the latest mock draft

This past week, Charles Davis released his first mock draft of the season and made some shocking decisions that made him stand out. Because the Titans (No.1), the Browns (No. 2) and the Giants (No. 3) all need quarterbacks, he made sure to fulfill that in his mock draft, ultimately gifting the Patriots the player of their choice.

With Shadeur Sanders, Cam Ward, and Jaxson Dart as the first three players off the board, the Patriots had their choice of their rumored top picks: Penn State EDGE Abdul Carter or Colorado CB/WR Travis Hunter.

In this case, Davis has them taking a projected franchise-altering pass rusher in Carter, who would immediately make the Patriots defense a feared group once again. He could benefit from having a coach like Mike Vrabel, a legend in his own right, and he could make a big impact on a guy like Keion White, hoping to make big strides in 2025.

It would be a great situation for the Patriots to be in, but there is a bit of a reality that needs to come into play when looking at this mock draft. It's highly unlikely that the chips will fall this way, especially with Dart landing in the top-3 picks.

But for the sake of hoping the best possible start to a draft can happen for New England, we will continue to be excited about the thought of this potentially coming to fruition on draft night.
