Potentially major injury could hugely impact Patriots' AFC East rival
This could be a devastating blow to the Miami Dolphins' OL, which is already a shaky unit. How much could this impact the race in the AFC East? Even though the Miami Dolphins have made a ton of great moves over the last year and look to be an ascending team, their offensive line has been a sore spot for what feels like years now.
Well, that sore spot could grow, as their stud, Pro Bowl LT Terron Armstead was carted off in practice on Thursday, and apparently cannot put weight on his
Armstead, 32, was one of the biggest free agents on the market last year, and it did take him a while to sign. Well, the Miami Dolphins decided to sign him to a massive five-year contract. He played in 13 games in 2022, and has never played a full season during his 10 year NFL career, which began with the New Orleans Saints back in 2013.
Terron Armstead is one of the 10 best left tackles in the NFL when he's healthy, and that's a big issue, as he's been banged up throughout his career. What is very interesting about this potentially major injury is how it impacts the Dolphins' offensive line, which is one of the weaker units in the NFL. In the NFL, games are won and lost at the line of scrimmage, and the Dolphins losing Armstead would be a huge blow and would likely make their passing game less efficient.
Also, let's not forget that former New England Patriots' first round draft pick, Isaiah Wynn, is a Miami Dolphin. Wynn has played all across the offensive line and has been successful at guard and tackle. Well, another thing that is very interesting is that Tua Tagovailoa is left handed, so his blindside is at right tackle, and according to ESPN.com, the Dolphins' projected starting RT is Austin Jackson, who has been a disaster thus far.
Austin Jackson does seem entrenched at RT, and that seems to be because he isn't a competent LT in the NFL. Well, if Terron Armstead is to miss some time, could Isaiah Wynn get the nod at LT? I think it's very possible. The Dolphins' best backup OL at this point is Wynn which isn't really saying much. I'll be interested to see how the Miami Dolphins' progress with their OL if Armstead is out for a while.
