Patriots' worst-case scenario 2024 NFL mock draft

Round 2, Pick No. 34: TRADE

The Patriots trade the 34th pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for picks 57, 220 and a third-rounder in 2025

Round 2, Pick No. 57: WR Keon Coleman, Florida State

If the decision in the first round were to pass on a quarterback, surely the Patriots would take one in the second round, right? Not in the worst-case scenario mock draft.

Instead, they'll go back to their Bill Belichick roots and trade their top-of-the-second-round pick to the Bucs for the 57th, 220th, and a 2025 third-round pick. With their new pick, Mayo and Co. take receiver Keon Coleman from Florida State.

Because the receiving class is also reportedly deep, it's not necessarily a bad choice for the Patriots to take one late in the second round. However, because they had the third pick of the round, giving them many options that are more highly projected, it makes little sense to trade back instead of taking a potentially better-fitting player.

It would also not be ideal to receive just a seventh-rounder and a pick next year in return when there are so many roster holes to fill this offseason.
