Patriots' Roster: Team disrespected by CBS Sports top-100 player rankings for 2023
Pete Prisco of CBS Sports ranked the top-100 players in the NFL heading into the 2023 season, and the Patriots were violently disrespected. I guess, to be fair, their 2022 season offered not much to talk about, so the Patriots are as of now an easily forgettable team.
However, what isn't up for debate is some of the great talent they have on their roster. Pete Prisco ranked the top-100 players for 2023, and we don't see a single Patriots' player mentioned until 99th overall, where Matthew Judon comes in.
Judon has notched 28 sacks over the last two seasons and during this time has become one of the most consistent pass rushers in the entire NFL. Him being ranked this low is honestly kind of sad, especially when you consider some other names ranked ahead of him.
Am I supposed to believe that Patrick Peterson, Trey Hendrickson, Kamren Curl, DJ Reader, and Justin Fields are all better than Judon? Come on, man.
There are also a few others on this list who have no business being above Judon. When you consider the positon he plays as well, it's shocking that he isn't higher on this list.
What might be the worst part about this list is Mike Onwenu not appearing on the list. He gets an "Honorable Mention" nod below the list. Onwenu is quite literally one of the seven best guards in the NFL, but is somehow not one of the best 100 players on the roster?
What are we doing here? It's good though that a subjective list like this will have no impact on the New England Patriots' performance in 2023, but it is quite irritating to see their two best players not get the attention they deserve.
They are both playing at a high-end, Pro Bowl type of level but are being ranked as if they're just slightly above average starters, which is not fair to them.
Hopefully with a rebound season incoming, the Patriots can begin to be talked about among the best, like they were for so long.
