Jerod Mayo confirms extension talks with Matthew Judon have started

Because it was clear the new Patriots' regime had decided to prioritize re-signing their most valuable free agents this offseason, many fans were hoping they would eventually shift their focus to completing extensions with others who have become critical pieces on the team over the last few years.

One of the names leading the charge continues to be Matthew Judon, who will both be playing on the final year of their contracts in 2024. Speculation has suggested negotiations have begun, while other rumors have said that wasn't accurate.

But to settle the debate, Jerod Mayo confirmed extension talks have been had, making it clear that retaining the pass rusher is a priority and that they'd like to keep on the team for a long time.

An audible sigh of relief has been heard from fans around New England hearing what Mayo had to say.

Judon has been the main force of dominance on the defense since signing with the team in 2021, and his impressive performance has already cemented his legacy in Patriots history, as he is now within the top-10 list of all-time sack leaders.

His absence was felt after he went down with an injury in Week 4 last season, proving further how valuable he has become to the team. And he's expressed his desire to retire a Patriot, so there's no reason not to get this done quickly, right?
