Despite the overwhelming pessimism surrounding the Patriots 2024 season, there is a lot to look forward to, like the return of the red throwback jerseys that every fan loves. They were finally able to be reintroduced in recent years as the NFL made changes to their alternate helmet rule, allowing New England to bring back one of their most beloved former uniforms.

One part of the rule change gives teams the chance to wear alternate helmets up to three times a season, which the Patriots have taken advantage of over the last few years. With that still in place, the team just announced two games for the upcoming season when the players will rock the red throwbacks, leaving one game still available if they change their mind.

The two games will be when the Houston Texans come to town in Week 6, and the Indianapolis Colts play in Foxboro in Week 13.

This certainly adds a bit more excitement behind those two games on the schedule, especially when the Colts come to Gillette Stadium. That's a rivalry that might never go away, no matter how long Peyton Manning has been off the team or how much time has passed since the "deflategate" scandal.

It also asks if a third game will be added or if the league needs to know far in advance about a team's plan to wear the alternate uniform. We'll have to wait and see.

Then there's the question of changing the current standard uniforms that fans have grown to despise, specifically the home attire. Once Tom Brady left, the Patriots made an effort to change up the uniform scheme and have since made the blue-on-blue pairing the regular pairing, which fans are not thrilled about.

There has long been a demand for the return of the silver pants from fans and former players alike, which would be nice to see come to fruition. Maybe because Jerod Mayo played during that era, he will be more partial to that combination and inclined to voice their comeback.

But until then, at least we have the nice throwback red combo to look forward to!
