Patriots are unanimously favored to land new franchise QB in 2024 NFL draft
Although the 2024 NFL draft is still over four months away, Patriots fans have become fixated on the near certainty that the team will draft their next franchise quarterback with their first-round selection since it is their highest draft position in decades.
Because draft experts and analysts have also taken on that belief, mock drafts have consistently had New England taking one of the top two prospects at the position if they remain with the second overall pick: Caleb Williams or Drake Maye.
With the Panthers looking like they won't win any more games this season and they swapped picks with the Bears in the D.J. Moore trade, it seems inevitable the Patriots will hold onto at least a top-3 pick; at least that's the hope given their dire need of a new quarterback.
Since that seems the most likely scenario, it has essentially ruled them out of contention to land Williams, who is presumed to be the first quarterback off the board. But that makes the Patriots the best suitor for Maye, who is now unanimously favored to play his next snaps of football in Foxboro.
According to a roundup of the most current mocks, a list put together by NBC Sports Boston, Maye will be the next New England Patriot.

Since they moved up into the second position, Maye has consistently been the quarterback they will target. He fits the typical mold of quarterbacks that New England likes, but given the uncertainty of who will be the head coach and general manager, it makes you wonder if they would go in a different direction at the position.
Maye is more mobile than the quarterbacks that Bill Belichick has normally drafted. But if they want to go with the trends of NFL quarterbacks, they may consider Jayden Daniels or Bo Nix, who both recorded triple-digit rushing yards throughout their college careers.
Regardless of what eventually happens, hopefully, they will decide to pick a quarterback, as it is the most important position on the field, and a team won't be competitive until that is solidly figured out.
