Additional depth pieces finish the Patriots 2024 NFL Draft

Rd. 6, Pick No. 193 WR Jordan Whittington, Texas

With all the talented receivers at Texas, Jordan Whittington was buried on the Longhorns’ depth chart. But he could be a better pro with more opportunities.

Whittington is solidly built at 6-1 205 pounds and plays bigger than his size. He’s a physical receiver who isn’t afraid to lower a shoulder and run through a defender. Whittington also has experience as a returner, adding value to the selection.

Rd. 7, Pick No. 231: LB Omar Speights, LSU

Having the best collection of strong safeties isn’t the only way to add speed to the second level. Omar Speights could spell relief for Ja’Whaun Bentley and Jahlani Tavai on early downs.

Speights is similar to former Patriot Elandon Roberts. Speights is at his best going downhill, attacking the line to stuff ball carriers. Speights is a little undersized, but he’s a sure tackler. The hope is Speights won’t overrun ball carriers on blitzes like Roberts did while with the Patriots, turning tackles for loss into big gains.
