The New England Patriots are in unfamiliar territory for the first time in nearly three decades. After finishing 4-13 this season, good enough for the third pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Patriots appear to have little hope to grab onto.

However, Patriots defensive lineman and captain Deatrich Wise is feeling optimistic about the team’s chances next season. In a recent interview with MassLive, Wise gave his reasoning behind why he is hopeful for next season. How should Patriots fans feel about his comments?

One comment I love from Wise is when he talks about how last season was not normal, but it's what they put on film. I like that Wise acknowledges and doesn't shy away from what went wrong. It’s essential for teams to go through adversity and fight it head-on.

Wise is also hopeful for the team’s defense next season, pointing to the fact that the Patriots held top offenses to low-scoring games. Furthermore, Wise was happy with the team’s effort down the stretch, specifically how they won two games when everyone had counted them out. I agree with Wise, as fans should be hopeful for how good the defense can be next season.

However, one area where I don’t think there is much hope is on the offensive side of the ball. With no answer at quarterback and one of the worst skill position groups in the NFL, it's hard to get excited about the Patriots' chances next season.

Unless the Patriots spend money on premier talent, I don’t see why fans should be optimistic about next season. We’ve seen that a great defense can only take you so far in today’s NFL.

Overall, it will be interesting to see how the Patriots approach this offense and their overall mindset.
