Breece Hall disses the Patriots after the Jets steamroll through Week 3
After a disappointing loss to the Seahawks in their home opener last Sunday, the Patriots had to prepare for their only primetime game of the 2024 season, which was, unfortunately, a Thursday Night Football game against the Jets.
Playing on a short week is never great for any team, especially one coming off a loss, but it couldn't have been a worse time for New England. The injuries have begun to pile up already, as they lost Ja'Whaun Bentley earlier this week, and every starting offensive lineman was listed on the injury report in the days leading up to the game.
It led to a lot of shuffling on the offensive line, including having the third and fourth left tackles take snaps in the game. On the defense, filling the hole left by Bentley was expected to be tough, and the lousy tackling and carelessness proved that throughout all four quarters on Thursday night.
Much of that and a long list of other shortcomings inevitably meant the Patriots would have a hard time walking out of MetLife Stadium with a win, which (of course) didn't happen. In fact, it was an absolute demolition by the Jets in every aspect of the word.
It was such an easy game for New York that one of their star players took the time to make sure everyone knew it when speaking to reporters after the game.
Breece Hall's comment about the Patriots speak to how far they have fallen in the AFC East
When discussing the Jets offense with New York reporters after the win, Hall spoke about being happy that they won the game while emphasizing their need to improve a lot of things to add more games to the win column the rest of the season.
Within that, he referenced the Patriots and stated that the good things they did in Week 3 should be able to be replicated against "a better opponent."
If that's not an indictment of how teams view the Patriots in 2024, then what is?
Unfortunately, he's not wrong, which might be the worst part. The Patriots didn't play well in any phase of the game and it would be a lie if Hall said anything to suggest they did. It's just a brutal thing to hear, considering where the Patriots used to be, but it's a good sign of how much growing they need and will do during the Jerod Mayo era.
Hopefully, it won't take too long to get back on top.
