4 overrated remaining free agents the Patriots should avoid

David Bakhtiari

Bakhtiari seems to have been around forever, but he’s somehow only 32. He hasn’t played an entire season since 2019, though!

There’s no denying that Bakhtiari is one of the best left tackles in the league when he plays. He has only drawn 27 penalties in the 85 games he has played in the last eight seasons! But his last contract, which the Packers bailed out of, was due to pay him $21.5 million in 2024.

Even with more than $53 million to spend, Bakhtiari isn’t worth the gamble for the Patriots. If he is willing to accept a 1-year, cut-price deal, he could be a valuable addition, but why would he?

Marcedes Lewis

Lewis has been one of the best blocking tight ends in the league since the Jaguars drafted him back in 2006!!!! And that’s the problem here, while the Patriots do need another tight end after Pharaoh Brown left, they don’t need one who is ten years older than Brown.

Lewis will celebrate his 40th birthday in May. And while he has never had any injury issues, he has played every regular season game since 2017! Nobody has a bad word to say about him, and he’s just not what the Patriots need right now.
