Bold prediction: The Patriots trade Matthew Judon for draft assets and cap relief

Matthew Judon has been an impactful and integral member of the team ever since he arrived. Judon has posted his top-two sack-producing seasons in New England (12.5 and 15.5, respectively). He truly feels like a Patriot, which is why predicting his removal comes with sad vibes.

Ultimately, it comes down to dollars and cents. Judon will be 32 years old next season. For a rebuilding team, paying a 32-year-old coming off a season-ending injury the year prior isn't smart business sense. Giving credit where credit is due, Billy B would move on from Judon before it's too late- move on a season too soon rather than a season too late.

Judon is still an elite pass-rusher. He can genuinely help his next team. The Patriots probably won't be able to finagle a first-round pick out of a Judon trade, but a second- and third- or fourth-round pick from another team sounds like a great haul. In addition to that, the cap relief of moving off of his contract opens up more cap space to fill the many holes in this roster.

No one is talking about the Pats moving on from Judon, but I think this will be a sneaky move on the Pats' part. If they make this move, it would be a bold move signaling the actual end of the Bill Belichick era in New England.

Too bold? Not bold enough? Let me know what I missed when it comes to the bold predictions the New England Patriots will make during the 2024 NFL offseason.
