One of the biggest concerns for the Patriots 2025 offseason is attracting the kind of talent needed to make the drastic roster improvements the team needs to be competitive as soon as possible. This has been a struggle for the historically successful team in the post-Tom Brady era and was even more difficult after Bill Belichick's departure last year.

That's partly what led to the team losing more than winning during the 2024 season, as the proper upgrades were not able to be met because the players did not want to join the team. Some of it could be attributed to other factors, like uncertainty at quarterback and the team being known for not paying up for quality players, but the biggest issue was likely having a first-time head coach.

With Mike Vrabel calling the shots now, the hope is that won't be the case this offseason, especially with a projected $128 million in cap space to use. It should create a significant opportunity to bring in top-name talent, and it should be a lot easier with a proven head coach and Drake Maye under center.

It also helps when one of the few stars on the team advocates for what New England has going for them and their plan for the future like cornerback Christian Gonzalez recently spoke about on the "Gruden Goes Long" podcast this week.

Christian Gonzalez hyping up the Patriots ahead of the 2025 season is exactly what free agents need to hear

Because the Patriots have seemingly lost their longtime spark with Belichick and Brady onto other career ventures, there isn't a lot of convincing of free agents about why they should want to play in New England. It used to be because they were the team to be on if you wanted to win, but they haven't done much of that over the last five years.

However, that doesn't mean the players on the team don't want to get back to that, as Gonzalez shared with Jon Gruden. He spoke about why he loves being on the Patriots, despite being apart of two losing teams, and is determined for the group to get back to their winning ways sooner rather than later.

“It’s just the pedigree of the Patriots. Just the history—the winning. That’s kinda how it is. We gotta get back to it. We’ve been off these past two years, but hopefully, we get back to being who we are.”

It might not be much, but hearing this kind of attitude from a guy like Gonzalez, who has risen to high ranks at his position since coming into the league in 2023, speaks volumes. He's been on two very different teams, with Belichick coaching his rookie year and Jerod Mayo in 2024, neither of which were seasons any Patriots fan cares to remember.

He's now entering his third season with a third head coach, so not exactly the ideal circumstances, yet he still advocates for players to come to Foxboro. That goes a long way, considering how turned off most have been from joining the team, and it means even more coming from a defensive player who won't benefit from playing with Maye.

Gonzalez's star power could help the team land defensive talent this offseason, and comments like this will only improve its chances of accomplishing that.
