The New England Patriots have one of their rockiest starts in recent memory. Of course, their 1-2 record is poor, but the way in which they've performed, particularly relative to expectations, has been nothing short of pathetic.
Through three games, the Patriots have the league's lowest offensive output, tied with the Dolphins for last. While they held up well on defense for the first two weeks, they were shredded by a Trevor Lawrence-led Jaguars in Week 3, as the Floridians scored 35 in a 29-point rout.
Drake Maye has been tremendously disappointing, with one touchdown to six interceptions through three games. For context, he threw eight touchdowns across the entire regular season last year. He's looked incredibly uncomfortable, and while A.J. Brown's injury nullifies a major threat from their offense, Maye has looked well out of his depth.
Despite being pulled apart against the Jaguars, one offensive lineman stood out amongst the chaos: Jared Wilson.
Jared Wilson makes PFF's Week 3 Team of the Week
Jared Wilson slid to center in 2026 after a rookie season as a left guard. His first year in the league was a bit of a roller coaster, but following the trade of Garrett Bradbury and the signing of Alijah Vera-Tucker in the offseason, Wilson's return to his more natural position was cemented.
Across 51 snaps against Jacksonville, Wilson was completely clean, allowing no pressure and committing no penalties. It was a bounce-back game after he struggled against an excellent Steelers defensive line in Week 2, when he allowed a 13.8% pressure rate.
This season, Wilson has allowed five total pressures, with four coming in Week 2. He hasn't been penalized or given up a sack in 177 snaps (all at center). His 4.7% pressure rate for the season remains a bit high, but it's heavily skewed due to his Week 2 performance.
In his other two matchups, his pressure rate has been less than 1.3%. In his performance against Jacksonville, PFF named him to the TOTW after he earned a 75.6 overall grade and an 84.0 pass-blocking grade.
If Wilson's Week 2 performance proves to be an outlier in a month or two from now, the Patriots will feel confident they've found a long-term cornerstone along the offensive line.
