With the potential trade for wide receiver AJ Brown just mere hours away from being announced, it was inevitable that Patriots players would be asked about the idea of seeing him join the roster for the 2026 season at Drake Maye's charity softball event over the weekend.

For much of the offseason, reporters haven't been too forceful with their questions about a hypothetical trade, despite the rumors heating up as the weeks passed by.

But now that a trade is rumored to be unofficially agreed upon and the Eagles are just waiting until Brown's salary is split over the next two years, it was time to ask some of the biggest offensive playmakers how they'd feel about the receiver joining them next season.

It has been the hottest topic all offseason, aside from Mike Vrabel's scandal involving Dianna Russini, and if a trade is completed, it will surely remain in the headlines for weeks to come. Now, a few players are adding to the conversation.

Patriots' players are ready for AJ Brown to join the offense for the 2026 season

Given how Brown's presence would impact them the most, reporters asked WR DeMario Douglas and RB Rhamondre Stevenson about the idea of becoming his newest teammate.

Both aired on the side of caution in discussing the possibility, since it's still not official, but didn't hesitate to emphasize just how good a player he is and what he could bring to the team.

It all sounds mostly surface-level, since they certainly don't want to dabble too much into the premise of the trade being official. But it's clear they respect Brown as a man and a player and know how much he would elevate the offense if he's added to the roster.

He would immediately become the WR1 the Patriots have been lacking for quite some time, and that gives a lot of security to an offense that struggled in the biggest games of the 2025 season, the Super Bowl included.

Drake Maye will finally have the explosive option he hasn't had a chance to work with thus far, one that puts defenses on their toes and forces them to prepare for anything and everything when game planning, which gives a big advantage to the Patriots, especially a mind like Josh McDaniels, who is already considered one of the best offensive coordinators in NFL history.

Giving him someone like Brown should only prove that even more, and what he will have the offense doing in 2026 will surely be exciting to watch.
