The defining game of Drake Maye's 2025 season may end up being the defining game of Aaron Glenn's time with the New York Jets. After a lopsided battle between the two teams in Week 17, Jets fans are full-on panicking about the current state of their franchise.

The Patriots won by a final score of 42-10, although the game was over long before the final whistle. Maye sat out the final quarter, watching his teammates finish the rout from the sideline.

With this win, the Patriots have reminded their division rivals who the rightful leaders of the AFC East are.

Patriots send Jets into a complete tailspin with Week 17 domination

It's rare to see two NFL teams engage in such an uneven matchup. The Patriots made the Jets look more like a college team than a professional franchise, sleepwalking their way into one of the most lopsided victories in recent league history.

Throughout the game, Maye was able to find wide-open receivers, finishing his day with 256 passing yards and five touchdowns with a nearly perfect passer rating, cementing his position as an MVP favorite. He spread the love among his receivers, with each of his touchdown passes going to a different Patriots player.

TreVeyon Henderson continued his dynamic rookie season, tallying 19 carries for 82 yards. Meanwhile, the Jets managed just 307 yards on the day. Without Breece Hall's long touchdown run in garbage time, New York would have had minimal offensive production.

Before the game was even over, Jets fans were calling for Glenn's job. Head coaches in the NFL are typically given a few years to build a team, so the former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator was thought to be somewhat safe coming into this game. But this kind of defeat can loom large in the mind of an owner. Woody Johnson won't like seeing his Jets embarrassed like this, and he's been known to make a few reactionary decisions.

The Jets were already headed for a complete rebuild. They've traded away their star players in exchange for draft capital, signaling that even they know how far beneath the Patriots they currently are. Nobody expected New York to take down New England this weekend.

But this game may seal Glenn's fate as a one-and-done head coach. The Jets are, like they have been for most of the last quarter of a century, levels beneath the Patriots.
