There has been plenty of speculation this offseason about the future of wide receiver Kayshon Boutte with the Patriots, mainly because he's set to enter the final year of his rookie contract, and the trade for A.J. Brown has painted him as the odd man out in the receiving corps.

Although the Patriots haven't hinted at trading Boutte, it's still a topic of conversation heading into training camp, and it will remain so until they either put the rumors to bed or move him before the season starts.

That uncertainty keeps them linked to potential pass-rusher trade chips across the league, with a few names that have remained in the conversation.

Perhaps the most notable of all has been Giants' Kayvon Thibodeaux, and, similar to Boutte's situation, the 25-year-old is the odd man out on New York's revamped defensive line. And because it would be fair to argue both teams need upgrades in those positions, several trade proposals have been suggested over the last few months.

The latest proposal from FanSided's Austen Bundy might be too good to pass up, however, especially if Mike Vrabel and Co. don't have long-term plans for Boutte in the offense.

A new trade proposal helps the Patriots and the Giants to make their 2026 season even better

Since both teams are considered sellers going into training camp, with Boutte and Thibodeaux leading the conversation, it's unsurprising that they continue to be linked in a trade.

That led Bundy to propose that the Patriots send Boutte and a 2027 fourth-round pick to the Giants for Thibodeaux, and call it a done deal.

Although there are plenty of ways for Josh McDaniels to incorporate Boutte into the offense, even with Brown as the WR1, as he has done in the past with players like Randy Moss and Wes Welker, they haven't said much about wanting to extend the receiver beyond the 2026 season.

Because of that, it would be wiser to trade Boutte for some kind of return, rather than watch him walk in free agency next spring, and it's difficult to argue against a trade that involves a pass rusher that the defense badly needs.

He's coming off the worst statistical season of his career, having only played in 10 games, but he is still very young and was a first-round draft pick in 2022. We've seen the kind of player he can be, particularly in 2023 when he recorded 50 combined tackles, 16 quarterback hits, three forced fumbles, and 11.5 sacks.

A change of scenery might be exactly what Thibodeaux needs, and he brings a bit more experience to New England's defensive line, which immediately becomes even more valuable with rookie Gabe Jacas's future still unclear.

It also sends the Giants a capable receiver who has been on the rise since he was drafted in 2023, and while Patriots fans would prefer to keep him around, some signs point to him not being there for much longer.

So why not trade him for a player the roster really needs when the time is right?

At the very least, this is the kind of trade deal that is worth seriously considering, and maybe Eliot Wolf will do just that.
