On top of the ongoing conversation surrounding the upcoming Super Bowl between the Seahawks and Patriots, the league snubbed Drake Maye for the MVP Award in favor of Matthew Stafford, despite the statistics showing otherwise.
Patriots fans were rightfully upset that the biggest award of the season went to someone other than Maye, even more so after seeing that he lost by only one first-place vote and someone decided he should vote for Justin Herbert.
But there might be a way to be thankful that Maye came up short this year for a very good reason: the result of the Super Bowl.
This, of course, is all superstitious, but it does hold weight in the eyes of many sports fans, particularly those who root for the Patriots. Looking back to when Tom Brady didn't win the coveted award has actually worked in New England's favor, and maybe that will be their fate again on Sunday.
Drake Maye losing the MVP Award for the 2025 season might be a blessing in disguise for the Patriots
Patriots fans were quick to look back on all the times Tom Brady was either named the season's Most Valuable Player or came up short during his time with the team, and how those results affected the outcome of the Super Bowl.
In the years Brady won, the Patriots lost the following Super Bowl. In the years he lost, they went on to win a Lombardi Trophy.
That could be on the horizon this year now that we know Maye didn't take home the award, which makes his snub sting just a little bit less.
There’s a weird Patriots MVP curse… and it might actually be a blessing 👀

In the big scheme of things, maybe this has nothing really to do with what happens during the Super Bowl, but it's difficult to completely overlook how it's panned out historically for the team.
The MVP curse was a concern for many Patriots fans in the weeks leading up to the announcement, and it looks like they were right to hope the quarterback didn't hear his name called. Although he certainly deserved it, he's now vying for an even bigger prize by taking home the franchise's 7th Lombardi Trophy and could become the next Super Bowl MVP.
That's a lot better than being Matthew Stafford, who took home the MVP Award just to watch the Super Bowl on his couch again.
