The Patriots have already been labeled as the most successful team coming out of the 2025 NFL Draft, as they addressed almost every weakness on their current roster. They managed to pick some of the best players at their position in this year's class, especially on offense, bringing some optimism back to what has been a woeful last few years in New England.
Their impressive draft class didn't stop after they announced Mr. Irrelevant, however, as Mike Vrabel and Co. continued to make headlines with the UDFAs they chose to sign, far more than their current roster allotted.
That meant releases were on the horizon as soon as Monday, which is the unfortunate fate that six players have faced this week so far.
It didn't take long for the Patriots to make their first big roster cut of the offseason after the 2025 NFL Draft
The Patriots had to release several players to make room for the incoming rookies, both drafted and undrafted. They announced who those players were on Monday evening, revealing that OL Jake Andrews, DL Marcus Harris, WR JaQuae Jackson, LB Titus Leo, S Mark Perry, and TE Giovanni Ricci were the players they chose to move on from.
Given the names on the list, it's not entirely surprising to see who was cut. Perhaps the most unexpected is offensive lineman Jake Andrews, mainly due to his versatility on the line and the lack of chance he was given to prove he could be a solid depth piece on the roster.

He was supposed to have that chance last season, but unfortunately, he suffered a torn meniscus during August of last year, forcing him to miss the entire 2024 season. He was set to compete for a starting role, likely at center, and will now have to earn that opportunity elsewhere in the league, unless he is eventually signed back to the practice squad.
This probably isn't the only batch of players who will be cut in the weeks after the draft, either, especially if the incoming rookies prove to be as talented, if not better, than initially thought. That is already being discussed regarding some of the UDFAs who have been signed, with running back Lan Larison at the forefront, which could make it more difficult for some returning players to keep their spot on the roster for the upcoming season.
