The offense was expected to be the focus of the Patriots' 2025 NFL Draft, and they delivered on that promise masterfully. Not only did they secure their next starting left tackle with Will Campbell, but they also selected their next starting center, a dynamic running back, and a speedy wide receiver that further bolsters their receiving corps for Drake Maye.

It's a draft class that has already earned them high grades around the league, with some of the most notable publications labeling it the best draft in the NFL. Mike Vrabel and Eliot Wolf hit every weakness on the roster, including who appeared to be the right player, and set the Patriots up for success well ahead of next season.

Because of that, many veterans are being highlighted regarding their futures on the roster, with the wide receiver room at the forefront. Although they only drafted one player, Kyle Williams, he fills a void on the team that could lead to the inevitable release of those who have been on the team.

It has created some panic within Patriots Nation about who that might be, but ESPN's Mike Reiss revealed some intel that assures those concerned about one player being on the chopping block.

A successful 2025 NFL Draft shouldn't impact at least one Patriots receiver for the upcoming season

Adding Williams and Stefon Diggs in free agency will drastically change the receiving corps for the 2025 season. It's a much-needed change for Maye in his second season, as they have managed to add the caliber of talent needed to boost his performance in the right direction.

Williams's selection fills the role of X receiver on the roster, allowing Diggs to presumably fill the Y, and DeMario Douglas to be the go-to slot. That means Douglas is likely safe from being cut or traded this offseason, according to Reiss, putting others closer to the chopping block instead.

"After signing veterans Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins in free agency, and drafting Washington State's Kyle Williams in the third round, the Patriots have revamped their wide receivers room. Third-year slot DeMario Douglas is probably safe, which means veteran Kendrick Bourne, third-year player Kayshon Boutte and 2024 draft picks Ja'Lynn Polk (second round) and Javon Baker (fourth round) are among those vying for a role in a suddenly crowded position group."

"Pop" has become a fan favorite since he was drafted in 2023. His infectious attitude and explosive performance on the field have garnered a lot of respect for a multitude of reasons, but especially for his size.

After a down 2024 season, there is hope that he can revert to the player we saw as a rookie now that he will closely work with offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, a coach who has mastered the art of creating impressive slot receivers throughout his career. That possibility alone should make Douglas safe from the Patriots' offseason cuts.

Fortunately, it looks like they share that mentality and want to see what he can do with Maye and McDaniels. Based on what we've seen from Douglas in the past, it's fair to assume it will be the right decision to keep him around.
