Moving on from Stefon Diggs after just one season inevitably led the Patriots to sign Romeo Doubs, who many analysts view as a similar player to the seasoned veteran, just younger and a bit more explosive.

Because of that, while he fits what the offense needs, his arrival didn't exactly move the needle in the way fans were hoping for, even if he will be a productive part of the game plan for Drake Maye.

Regardless, former Patriots players are more than thrilled to see the longtime Packers star in New England, with retired cornerback Logan Ryan among the first to sing his praises after the signing was made official.

We're now hearing from Julian Edelman, who further emphasizes that he looks like a good fit for the offense and for Maye, who is set to go into a very telling third season.

Romeo Doubs continues to get former Patriots players excited about what he can bring to the team

While speaking to Sophie Weller of Patriots Wire this past week, the Patriots' legendary receiver had nothing but good things to say about Doubs and the kind of player that he is, particularly his professionalism, which he thinks makes him a great fit for the offense and the locker room.

"He's a professional. I'm really excited to see him with Drake. He's got a lot in his route tree. He's consistent. And I think bringing a player with that professionalism in that room, I think it's going to be great."

It's difficult to argue with that assessment, coming from someone as respected by Patriots fans as Edelman, so if he feels this way about Doubs, why shouldn't we?

There's plenty to like about the 25-year-old and the kind of player he can be for Maye, especially since he's progressed every season since he's been in the league. Now that he will be paired with a widely considered legendary offensive coordinator in Josh McDaniels, it seems fair to assume we are about to see the best from Doubs this upcoming season.

Since he's expected to serve a bigger role in New England's offense than he ever did in Green Bay, there are some concerns about whether he'll be able to handle the pressure that comes with that. But we've already seen his eagerness to get acquainted with the playbook and his new teammates, so he's clearly bought into the Patriots' attitude and dedication to preparation.

That's going to make him an even better addition to the receiving corps and he could become Maye's next favorite weapon, even if many fans aren't seeing that just yet.
