It was only a matter of time since the Raiders allowed Davante Adams to seek a trade so that the wide receiver would reunite with his old quarterback from his Packers days. That trade was made official on Tuesday morning, mere hours after the Jets added another embarrassing loss to their 2024 season, further proving one thing.

New York is in more trouble than just their 2-4 record.

Since they acquired Aaron Rodgers via trade last year, the Jets appear to have forfeited most of their power to the quarterback, allowing him to dictate what players to sign in free agency or to trade for. The move for Adams might not be a horrifically bad decision, depending on who you ask, but it shows just how desperate the Jets' higher-ups are after firing head coach Robert Saleh after just five games this year.

It is also an issue to give your quarterback so much say in how the team operates, which you'd think would be clear by now, given how poorly they have performed since Rodgers returned to the lineup this season.

They already signed some of his best buddies from when he was a Packer, like wide receivers Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard.

The trade for Adams might just be their latest questionable decision, with the long-term benefits potentially helping the Patriots.

The Jets are making panic moves this season, which could be good for the Patriots

The trade for Adams was announced early Tuesday morning, fresh off their 23-20 loss to the Bills on Monday Night Football. It was one of the least shocking moves of the season so far, as it was expected the Raiders would send Rodgers former number one target to New York to reunite with the quarterback.

However, based on what was seen during their Week 6 game, it's hard to imagine that Adams will be the saving grace of this Jets offense, and it doesn't help that they'll be forfeiting a potential second-round pick to acquire him on top of taking on his entire contract, which is a considerable expense for a 32-year-old receiver., even more so for one that is reportedly dealing with a hamstring injury

Given the long-term impact of a contract like Adams', it's a move that could ultimately help the Patriots with roster building and competing for the division. Rodgers also has a massive contract, and the Jets are in their Super Bowl window with the 40-year-old, so two hefty contracts aren't the best way to accomplish that.

With the Patriots hoping to be a competitive team within the next year or two, having the Jets lose draft picks, and a ton of cap space is a significant benefit and another easy way for the Jets to shoot themselves in the foot before winning anything.

Furthermore, expectations will be even higher now that they have added Adams to the lineup, so imagine how disappointed they will be if he doesn't immediately improve the team.

Watching the (potential) downfall of a longtime rival couldn't be sweeter.
