Since the New England Patriots’ Super Bowl loss, the team’s rookie left tackle, Will Campbell, has been a popular topic of conversation. Campbell struggled throughout the postseason, especially in the Super Bowl, prompting criticism of his performance and debate over his future in the league.

Amongst all of the noise was some constructive criticism from NFL linemen who have navigated the journey Campbell is on. One of those linemen was the recently retired Terron Armstead.

The former All-Pro lineman came to Campbell’s defense and explained how he could fix his issues. Armstead then took things a step further, inviting Campbell to train with him in the offseason to help the young lineman improve.

Terron Armstead wants to train with Will Campbell in the offseason

NFL Network reporter Cameron Wolfe spoke with people around the league to better understand the challenges Campbell was facing, which led to a conversation with Armstead. Wolfe relayed that Armstead believes Campbell’s struggles stem from issues with his set and punch timing. That’s when Wolfe revealed that Armstead is volunteering to work out with Campbell this summer.

Will Campbell should absolutely jump at this opportunity. Armstead was drafted in the third round of the 2013 Draft out of an FCS school by the New Orleans Saints and developed into one of the top offensive linemen of the last decade. Playing nine seasons with the Saints and three with the Miami Dolphins, he was a five-time Pro Bowler and a second-team All-Pro in 2018.

Armstead certainly has some knowledge that Campbell could pick up, and if the young lineman wants to carve out a long, productive career like the one Armstead had, he should spend some time with him this offseason.

Campbell comes across as a hardworking player who’s always willing to learn, so it’s fair to assume he’ll take Armstead up on this offer. Whatever Campbell ultimately decides to do, Patriots fans should take a deep breath and trust that he’ll be better moving forward.

The young lineman just finished his first NFL season and was playing on the biggest stage against an elite defense. Growing pains are inevitable for every player in the league. As long as Campbell grows, everything will be alright.
