The official unveiling of the 2026 NFL schedule is just mere hours away, but as usual, the leaks are nonstop, and we now know what the Patriots are about to face in the first month of the season.
It has already been stated that their slate of games this fall was projected to be much more difficult than their unexpectedly successful Super Bowl-ending year, and based on how the NFL has constructed their first four games, that was clearly not an exaggeration.
While these games won't be made official until Thursday night, which means there is a chance that the leaks are incorrect, it's apparent that no matter what, the Patriots are in for a tough road in the hopes of getting back to the championship game, starting with a rematch against their latest Super Bowl foes.
- Week 1: @ Seattle Seahawks
- Week 2: vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
- Week 3: @ Jacksonville Jaguars
- Week 4: @ Buffalo Bills
Considering how the rest of the schedule could pan out, this might be the worst-case scenario for the Patriots to start their new season.
The Patriots are set to have their 2026 season tested right away
Going into this offseason, knowing the opponents on the 2026 season docket, it was clear that significant work needed to be done to improve the roster and ensure the Patriots had a legitimate chance to replicate last year's success.
They seemingly accomplished that through free agency and the draft, adding plenty of depth to the offensive line, drafting players at every weakness, and giving the defensive line a refresh in hopes of assembling a more destructive unit.
On paper, it looks good, and, unfortunately for New England, they'll be tested early by the four teams they'll face in September. It's fair to argue that they couldn't have given them a tougher assignment over the first four weeks.
They'll have to use that as some added motivation throughout the summer, and hopefully, go into the year much more prepared than most teams are early in the season. That will be the only way to start the season strong, or they'll see their season derailed early and doomed the rest of the way.
