One of the Patriots' roster priorities going into the 2025 offseason was to address the offensive line to give Drake Maye better protection, allowing him to flourish as the impressive quarterback he already appeared to be. Mike Vrabel and Co. accomplished that by adding free agents Garrett Bradbury and Morgan Moses, while also drafting Will Campbell and Jared Wilson.
Throughout the regular season, they proved to be an improved group from last season, but their inconsistency, particularly on the left side, was hard to ignore, especially when it drastically impacted Maye's performance.
Unfortunately, that was a big storyline in their efforts against the Seahawks in Super Bowl LX, with Campbell becoming the biggest weakness on the field that night. It has led to a lot of discussion about his NFL future at left tackle, with many speculating he could be moved to guard, and even some of the most seasoned former players have chimed in.
The latest is Ndamukong Suh, who was part of Sky Sports' Super Bowl broadcast team and had a lot to say about Campbell's performance that Patriots fans might not want to hear.
Ndamukong Suh's impression of Will Campbell from the Super Bowl means the Patriots have a lot of work to do
In the midst of the Patriots' Super Bowl meltdown, it was inevitable that analysts would comment on Campbell's apparent struggles throughout the night.
Suh's take on the situation was interesting, especially the way he referenced him, and while it's hard to hear, he's not entirely wrong, and the team will have a lot to consider this offseason about how they can improve his skillset at his current position, or whether it's worth the risk of moving him inside.
"Will Campbell - he’s been a little bit of a detriment for this offense for the Patriots. I call him a pigeon, in my terms. He’s the weak link at the end of the day, and they’re finding ways to attack him, whether it’s with the blitz or one-on-one rushes."
Campbell's struggles against some of the best defensive linemen in the league were on full display in the playoffs, particularly, and that revisited the offseason conversation regarding his fit as a left tackle in the NFL, mainly due to his arm length and size.
That's inevitably going to become a hot topic throughout the offseason, whether or not the Patriots' coaching staff is actually considering it. He will need to show massive improvement to show that he can be the right guy to protect Maye's blindside as soon as next season when they face a first-place schedule.
It's crucial that they get it right with Campbell because the future of the offense under Maye depends on it, and that makes it one of the biggest offseason storylines to watch over the next few months.
