The Patriots are in the best position possible heading into the trade deadline in two weeks, as they sit with the most available cap space to spend if they want to acquire a player to further boost their roster this season. Plenty of names have circulated that might be on their radar, with a few familiar names becoming the most prominent.

Among the most notable is wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, who followed Josh McDaniels to the Raiders when he became their head coach in 2022. The Patriots chose to sign JuJu Smith-Schuster instead of Meyers, so he followed the offensive coordinator to the AFC West and has since put together the best seasons of his career.

But since McDaniels was fired in 2023, things in Las Vegas haven't been so peachy for Meyers and he requested a trade earlier this season. Now that the deadline is nearing, there's a chance the Raiders might look to move him, and the receiver is still hoping that will happen.

There's a good chance that the Patriots will seriously consider trading for Jakobi Meyers ahead of next month's deadline

There's a good chance that the Patriots will look at wide receivers on the trade market over the next two weeks, and Meyers is expected to be near the top of the list. Because of his familiarity with the Patriots and McDaniels, there wouldn't be much of a transition from the Raiders, which is certainly a plus for the offense.

On top of that, because he followed McDaniels out west, there's a good chance he would be good with a trade back to where his career started, and he's made it beyond clear that he wants out of Las Vegas as soon as possible.

Although he's not the superstar name that most fans are likely hoping for, Meyers would be a solid addition to the Patriots receiving corps that has been led by Kayshon Boutte and Stefon Diggs so far this season.

He's proven he can be productive with any quarterback and he's thrived in a McDaniels system, so becoming a weapon for Drake Maye would be no issue. He could be a solid WR3 if not better in their current lineup, and a reliable part of what they're trying to make the offense in Foxboro.

The problem they might run into, however, is the Raiders willingness to offload Meyers, as he has become their number one offensive target outside of TE Brock Bowers. That could force them to keep him around for at least another year, even if he he continues to express his desire to be moved.

Fortunately, the cost to reach a trade deal isn't likely to be too expensive, if the Patriots are interested in making an offer. But rumors suggest they might choose to explore other options instead of a wide receiver, so even if Meyers would be a good addition, it might not happen, at least this year.
