Haason Reddick embarrasses himself by calling out Bill Belichick after Jets loss
When the Jets made their way to Foxboro for a Week 8 matchup with the Patriots, it was expected that they would wipe the floor again and sweep New England in a similar fashion to their previous game last month. Instead, it was a battle of the more dysfunctional, which fortunately worked in the Patriots' favor as they rallied behind Jacoby Brissett to get the second win of the year.
It was an embarrassing day for the Aaron Rodgers-led team, especially since they were lauded as a Super Bowl contender all offseason. Even worse, after they beat the Patriots in Week 3, there was a lot of chatter suggesting the 40-year-old quarterback was in his MVP form.
Little did they know he would be partly responsible for the downfall.
There was an apparent effort made to get the Jets out of their current slump, suffering a 5 game losing streak coming into Sunday, and the addition of Davante Adams didn't make the impact they were hoping for. There was a chance the return of Haason Reddick, who the Jets traded for in the offseason, would also be a difference-maker since this was his first game with the team, but that didn't happen either.
So when they lost to the 1-6 Patriots, the excuses began to flow, which didn't sit right with everyone in the media. Bill Belichick, for example, who might be one of the few people who enjoys a Jets loss more than anyone else, broke down the game during his weekly appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, and what he had to say didn't sit well with at least one Jets defender.
Haason Reddick proves to be thin-skinned in reaction to Bill Belichick's criticism
As he does every Monday, Belichick appeared on the ESPN program to discuss the week's NFL games. He was promptly asked about the Patriots' most recent win over the Jets, and while discussing the game, he spoke about the number of mistakes the team made in their effort to win in Foxboro, including his criticism of Reddick's 2024 debut.
It was a pretty tame critique that wasn't unnecessary or unfair to the linebacker, but that didn't matter in Reddick's eyes.
Upon hearing what the legendary head coach had to say, Reddick took to Twitter/X to call out Belichick in an NSFW tweet.
It said, before becoming graphic, “Aye someone call Bill Belichick and give him a job. Seems like he’s home bored and can’t keep me out of his mouth."
Jets and Patriots fans alike responded to the absurdity and laughed at how personally he took what Belichick had to say, especially since he wasn't over the top or unfair with his criticism. It prompted some, including MassLive reporter Chris Mason, to pull up the film to show exactly what the head coach was referring to, proving even more than Reddick was just having an ego trip over a spot-on critique.
Considering he was amid a holdout that led to him not suiting up with his new team until Week 8, which likely contributed to his less-than-impressive performance, Belichick's take isn't unfair, nor should Reddick take it so personally.
He should know he's not going to be at his best when he hasn't played football in several months, and hearing what the best head coach of all time had to say about his performance should be eye-opening and not something he needs to throw jabs over.
It's just the latest embarrassing moment from the Jets this season, making it the least surprising development of the year.
