Davon Godchaux respectfully clowns Aaron Rodgers after Patriots win
The Patriots sneaking out a win over the Jets on Sunday was not expected by anyone, especially not if Drake Maye was going to leave the game early due to injury. But that was the case in Week 8 and it couldn't have been a better timed win for a team dealing with a lot of outside noise and alleged turmoil within.
Besides the bonus of beating the Jets and not allowing a season sweep, the team played harder than they have in recent weeks and seemed to bounce back from the chaos resulting from the last two games. From Jerod Mayo's comments about the roster being a "soft football team" that ruffled some feathers to wide receivers taking their feelings to social media, it was far from an easy day for the Patriots.
Fortunately, they overcame it to add the second win to the season and could do it again next Sunday when they match up with the Titans. It will surely be the dominating story in the days that follow the win, but there's another headline-making factor that might overshadow what the Patriots accomplished.
Aaron Rodgers's continued decline and lack of success in New York have already had people talking, and the conversation will pick up again after this latest loss. When the Patriots and Jets met in Week 3, the conversation was dramatically different. The media claimed the quarterback was back to playing like a four-time MVP, making the Jets Super Bowl favorites.
That wasn't seen in Foxboro on Sunday, however, which brought out some respectful jabs from at least one Patriots defender.
Davon Godchaux couldn't help but comment on Aaron Rodgers forgettable performance
Because the addition of Rodgers to the Jets was believed to put them on the map and instantly make them favorites for their first championship since 1969, it's been flabbergasting to see the quarterback not perform up to par, especially since he was trying to come back last season after healing from his Achilles injury.
He has been less than great through the first eight games of the season, which prompted upper management to fire their head coach earlier this month and even trade for Davante Adams.
It all hasn't mattered, though, and that was on full display at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, which got Godchaux to clown him for not being the quarterback they expected to face again.
You know a future Hall of Fame quarterback doesn't look like his usual self when players are openly mocking his demise.
But as Godchaux said, it worked in the Patriots' favor, as they were able to take advantage of Rodgers's shortcomings and rip the Jets' playoff hopes away from them halfway through the season.
