Besides likely needing to pull off a big trade for the caliber of wide receiver the offense needs, the Patriots might need to explore their options in the same way for a pass rusher. Although they could likely use an early round draft pick to get their next starter, they'll want some veteran assurance to immediately boost their defense, so a player like Kayvon Thibodeaux makes a lot of sense.

The Giants' pass rusher has been a name floated as a possible trade candidate this offseason, particularly since they selected Abdul Carter with their first-round pick last year, and they also have Brian Burns and Dexter Lawrence leading the charge.

That would make Thibodeaux available, and the latest chatter from the NFL Combine suggests the Patriots could get him for a steal, making it even more desirable to seriously consider making the move.

It might make sense for the Patriots to shift their trade focus to Kayvon Thibodeaux

According to NFL insider Connor Hughes, the Giants are giving off the sense that they'd like to trade Thibodeaux once free agency begins, with most sources believing they won't take less than a fourth-round pick for the 25-year-old.

That's a solid price for a player who has shown a lot of potential and can grow with the team, just like Mike Vrabel wants with the Patriots moving forward.

Although Thibodeaux has missed 12 games over the last two years, he showed exactly the kind of player he can be during the 2023 season by logging 50 combined tackles, 12 for a loss, 16 quarterback hits, four passes defended, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and 11.5 sacks.

Given that he would likely take on the go-to pass-rushing role on the Patriots' defense, it's likely we would see that kind of production from him again, which is exactly what they need from him.

Because they're likely out of contention for a player like Maxx Crosby, since the Raiders are reportedly looking for two first-round picks to even have a conversation about a trade, and it's possible the Patriots won't be willing to pay Trey Hendrickson the salary he's looking for, considering a trade for someone like Thibodeaux makes sense.

He fits the profile of a player that Vrabel likes, with his aggressiveness and potential to match, and he would pair well with the defense line they already have.
