With the free agent class of pass rushers thinning out, the Patriots are losing options the longer they wait to sign more than just Dre'Mont Jones. They have already lost out on the top available players, but there is one more intriguing name popping up on the trade market: current Vikings star Jonathan Greenard.

There haven't been any reports of the Patriots expressing real interest in Greenard, but he fits what they are likely looking for on the defensive line.

The Vikings have made him available, and, according to the latest reporting from NFL insider Dianna Russini, the Patriots will need to move fast if they think he could be a good addition, because the Eagles, who are known for pulling off big-time trades, are inquiring about the linebacker.

With limited options now and a significant need for upgrading, the Patriots need to take this as a threat and strongly consider Greenard as an option, or else they'll be nearly out of luck to address the position.

The Eagles could swoop in and steal Jonathan Greenard from the Patriots

The Patriots' weak pass rush from the 2025 season has only gotten worse over the last three days, with the departure of K'Lavon Chaisson and the loss of their defensive line as a whole, as Khyiris Tonga and Jahlani Tavai leave, too.

That should light a fire under Mike Vrabel and Eliot Wolf, and, according to some new reporting, they are, at the very least, on the phone with some of the remaining free agents. Yet nothing has been said about Greenard, which is a bit concerning.

He's just 28 years old and has been a consistent disruptor on the field. His physicality and veteran presence are what the head coach is looking for, and although they would have to give up draft capital to acquire him, all signs point to Greenard being worth the investment.

As of now, Minnesota hasn't revealed what they're looking for in return, but the Patriots are in a good position with 12 picks in next month's draft. They could easily ship off a pick or two to get in an established player, and still select their hopeful next superstar EDGE player with their other selections.

If they are even considering the trade, they'll need to make up their mind quickly, with the Eagles actively speaking with the Vikings.
